Saturday Art Class:                4th Grade Unit Plan

Description: Lessons from this Unit Plan were taught virtually through Zoom for 3 Saturday art classes. In this Unit Plan, students learned about creating art by using recycled materials. The main theme that was used throughout this unit was the students coming up with ideas for their own recycling robot. The first lesson the students created clay robots and used recycled objects to make impressions into the clay to create textures. In the second lesson, the students made robots out of recycled materials that they each gathered from their own homes. The students independently assembled the recycled materials into their own design for their recycled robot. For the third lesson, the students created a short comic strip about their recycling robot, showing how/what their robot does to help them live more sustainably.

Rationale:

This Unit Plan gives students a different perspective on what types of materials they can use to create art. It makes students think outside of the standard art supply box to look at other possibilities to create. It also teaches the students to be more resourceful and creative when reusing and recycling materials.

2B)  understands major concepts, assumptions, debates, and principles; processes of inquiry; and theories that are central to the disciplines;

Saturday Art Class:            7th Grade Unit Plan

Description: This Unit Plan focuses on identity. Students had to come up with a list of things that they like or identify themselves with or apart of. Whether that be cultural heritage, family traditions, or things they enjoy. Once their list was full the students chose things from their list to draw into the shape of their initials. They would then make 3D models out of clay based on their drawing design.

Rationale:  Students will learn more about themselves and reflect on what they identify with and why. Students will also see if the things they identify most with shows up in their artwork.

7D: understands how to organize the instructional environment to maximize students’ learning.

7B: understands a variety of current age-appropriate instructional strategies and their applications.

Classroom Set-up

Zoom and Google Drive

Description:

Since Saturday art classes were virtual this year our classroom set up consisted of using Zoom to see and interact with the students and Google Drive to share information and resources with the students.

Rational:

The Google drive was created sot that students would have access to the artist handouts and could upload images of their finished project to the class Google Drive for others to see.

7D: understands how to organize the instructional environment to maximize students’ learning.

7B: understands a variety of current age-appropriate instructional strategies and their applications.
